Peter "Pete" Otto Peterson, 74, of Mantorville, passed away surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer on Sunday, August 18, 2019.
Pete was born on September 4, 1944 to Otto and Novia (Larson) Peterson in Fairmont, MN. He graduated from Trimont High School in 1962 and then attended Gustavus Adolphus College, earning a B.S. in Business Administration.
He served in the US Army in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge he spent a year at the University of Minnesota where he met his future wife. On August 16, 1975, Pete married the love of his life, Julie. They later settled in Mantorville where they have resided for 40 years.
He was employed by UPS for ten years and then worked for IBC/Wonder Bread in Rochester until his retirement in 2010. He was also a substitute rural mail carrier in Mantorville for a number of years. After his retirement, Pete was able to spend more time fishing, hunting, off-roading, enjoying coffee with his friends, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was an active member of Kasson-Mantorville Lions Club, a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson, and a Rochester Paws & Claws volunteer.
He instilled in his family a love and appreciation of nature and the outdoors. Pete was a hard worker, generous, never complained, and always greeted you with a big smile and a funny story from his vast range of life experiences.
