Pete MacWilliam, 90, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at home, December 20, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. A native of Vero Beach, Pete was born into the local pioneer family of Alexander and Jeanette MacWilliam on February 17, 1930. He was a graduate of Vero Beach High School and Sunflower Junior College in Mississippi. In 1952, Pete joined the United States Air Force and served as a fighter pilot. He piloted the F89, F106 and ferried many radial engine aircraft around the world. During his service in Vietnam, he flew the A-1E Skyraider. In 1972 after serving as Base Operations Officer at Patrick AFB Pete retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and returned to Vero Beach to work in the real estate industry. In his spare time, Pete was an avid sports fan, loved the outdoors, spending time with his family and encouraging his children, "You can be whatever you want." He lived his life the same way. He will be eternally adored for his gracious spirit, his self-less labors of love, and honored for his service and reverence to God, our Country, his family and friends. Pete is survived by his brother Robert (Barbara) MacWilliam, his wife of 63 years, Barbara MacWilliam, five children, Barbie (Bob) Kehrberg, Peter (Glen) MacWilliam, Michael (Lisa) MacWilliam, Bill (Kim) MacWilliam and Kevin (Terilynn) MacWilliam, fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; 18 nieces and nephews and his loyal schnauz , Yeager. Pete was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edgar (Maxine) MacWilliam, Alex (Jean) MacWilliam, Billy MacWilliam and sisters, Helen (Bill) Glenn, Joan (Bill) Schardt, and Barbara (Oscar) Fultz. The family would like to express their gratitude to the VNA and all of Pete's devoted caregivers who attended him at home. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
