Peter William Failla, 85, of Cary, NC passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2022.
Peter, a native of Lodi, NJ, was born on August 5, 1936 to the late Marie and Salvatore Failla. He was a proud and determined first-generation Italian-American, dedicated to providing for his family and living life to its fullest. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1958 with a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering and later obtained his Masters. As a professional engineer, Peter spent most of his career as the proprietor of Alpha Engineering and Surveying Associates in Parsippany, NJ. He and his wife, Kathy, raised their 4 children and niece in Chester, NJ, then retired to Ocean City, MD. In recent years, they also spent time in their Cary, NC home to be closer to family.
Peter embraced life and enjoyed being with family and friends more than anything. He was notorious for telling jokes, giving long speeches, hosting friends and family, playing sports, writing sentimental notes, and giving big embraces to those he loved. Peter believed that richness in life is not measured by financial wealth rather by a family's love. He was selfless with his time and resources providing opportunity, encouragement, and respect for those he cherished and anyone who befriended "Pete". This devotion to the wellbeing of others has left generations of friends and family bonded by his love.
He is affectionately remembered by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Failla; his brother Jack Failla and sister, Elaina Failla; daughters, Christine Krutisia (Salvatore), Corrin McCarthy (Michael), Clorris Sthole (Chad), and son, Peter Failla II (Elizabeth); niece, Megan Strand; 9 beautiful grandchildren: Michael, Ethan, Sammy, Hanna, Eric, Daniel, Sophia, Peter III, and Harrison.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by a prayer service at Apex Funeral Home. The family will also have a funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mendham, NJ on March 26th at 11:00am.
