Peter Andrew Connelly, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 24, 2021 at the age of 85 at The Vineyard Bluffton in Bluffton, South Carolina.
Born March 1, 1936 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Peter graduated from the Roxbury Latin School and the College of the Holy Cross. He served in the US Navy, completing Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida in 1957 and going on to become a Naval Aviator. After leaving active-duty service in the Navy in 1963, Peter went on to fly for Eastern Airlines for over 25 years. After leaving Eastern, Peter flew for several airlines in other countries, living with his wife Barbara for a time in both Istanbul, Turkey and Cairo, Egypt. He was also a long-time resident of Duxbury, MA.
Peter was a life-long lover of a variety of sports. He played baseball, hockey, and tennis at Holy Cross, and was captain of the tennis team as a senior. He also loved to sail, play golf, and was a crack bridge player. Peter was also a lover of spirited debates about anything and everything (but especially politics), and was well known for his sharp and quick wit, and his booming and infectious laughter.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (nee Dennison) of Auburn, MA, daughters Maura, Tricia (Charlie) Neuhaus, and sons Drew (Nancy), Kevin (Gayle), and Chris. Peter will also be remembered with love by his grandchildren, Thor, Maren and Connelly Rhodin; Peter, Oliver, and Hope Connelly; Emma and Carly Gamson and Charlie Neuhaus; Claire and Will Connelly; and Sean, Lily, and Ryan Connelly. Peter was predeceased by his brothers Patrick and Philip.
A celebration of Peter's life will be held at a date to be decided upon in the future.
Memorial donations in memory of Peter can be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935.
