Peter Allen Burkard of New Rochelle, formerly of Rome, passed away on May 29, 2020 after a long illness.
Pete was born in Rome, NY on June 13, 1943, the son of Paul and Nettie Brittain Burkard. He attended Rome public schools and graduated from RFA in 1961. He attended St. Lawrence University, then joined the US Air Force in 1963, and was stationed in South Korea. After leaving the Air Force, Pete began his career in radio becoming an on-air announcer in Utica, New Rochelle and then in New York City at WKTU. He also did voice overs for radio and TV commercials, before retiring from radio in 2008. Pete then worked in the business office of Masonry Depot in New Rochelle, NY until 2015.
He was an avid photographer and a lifelong member of the Episcopalian church. Peter leaves a sister, Elizabeth Burkard Casazza, Newburyport, MA, a brother, Michael Burkard, Bennington, VT, a niece, Kristen Casazza, NYC, a nephew, Jeffrey Casazza, Newton, MA., and many cousins and old friends. A private service will be held in Rome, NY at a later date. Arrangements are being made through the New Rochelle Funeral Home.
