Perkins B. Pringle, 91, passed away February 3, 2021. Perkins was born July 2, 1929 to Isaac P. and Marie Gordon-Pringle in Meridian, Miss. He attended Meridian Public Schools. He joined the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of WWII. He was a Guard Patrolman and was Honorably Discharged February 1947. Two years later, he moved to Akron, Ohio where he met and married the love of his life, the late Elizabeth Ann Burgan. They were married for 69 years.
Perkins was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring after 25 years. Perkins also was a coach of the Maple Valley Little League Baseball Team. After retiring, he had a small business called VIP, working on baseball mitts for All Ohio Sporting Goods, Prime Time Sports and others from as far away as West Virginia and Indiana.
He was a charter member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church under the late pastor, John M. Burrell and was ordained a deacon there. In 2007, he became a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Cory Johnson where he served as deacon and elder until his health began to fail.
Perkins is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and brothers, George, Lee, Lester and Rel Pringle. He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Elbert Burgan Pringle, Jacksonville, Fl. and Darryl (Halle) Pringle I of Akron; daughters, Maryldene (Dene) Pringle, Annmarie (Lloyd) Ford, Diane Grimes, and Pamela (Rocco) Wellington, all of Akron and Alisa Whitlow of Augusta, Ga.; sister, Pearl Tidwell of Hot Springs, AK.; sister-in-law, Frances Pringle of Akron; brother-in-law, Alfred Burgan of Cleveland; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; cousin, Clifford Gordon, special friend, Nathaniel "Pete" Crosby; adopted daughters of love, Agatha Johnson, Doris Ellis, Charnee Barnes and Arvilla Colbert and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends, extended family, Vernon and Vivian Neal, Carolyn Neal-Clay and his James R. Williams Tower Family.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 12, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Prince of Peace Baptist Church 844 Garth Avenue Akron, Oh. 44320. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of service. Pastor Rocco V. Wellington, eulogizing, internment at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery.
