Honorable Pegram John Mire, Jr., a resident of Donaldsonville, LA, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the age of 70. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Visitation will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 from 6-9 pm and will resume on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 8-11:30 am at Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville, LA. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church with burial in Ascension Catholic Cemetery. Judge Mire was born on February 24, 1952 in Donaldsonville, LA to Pegram John Mire and Ella Rose Gautreau of Gonzales, LA. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Ourso Mire; children, Vanessa, Falcon, John, and Samuel Mire; grandson, Cooper Bray; sisters, Renee' Mire Michel (Johnny) and Annette Mire Ambeau (Hugh); brothers, Dean Mire(Xiayoi) and Jeff Mire. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Susanne Mire. After graduating from East Ascension High School, Judge Mire attended Louisiana State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He obtained a Juris Doctor degree at Loyola University School of Law, New Orleans, LA. Mire began practicing law in Ascension Parish in 1978 and served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 23rd Judicial District. In 1984, he was elected as a judge for Ascension Parish Court and served there until 1997, when he was elected as a judge for the 23rd Judicial District, Division D. His combined judicial service exceeded 23 years before he retired from the bench. Following his judicial retirement, Mire remained active in the legal profession and frequently appeared in court. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association and a board member of the Committee on Alcohol and Drug Abuse of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Pegram was an avid golfer. He loved being on the golf course, especially for the annual "Peg and Pete's Spring Retreat" golf trip that he and his best friend started together in 1982. But, nothing could beat a golf game on the course with him and his three boys. He was a founding member of Timberton Social Club, and was a Friend of Bill W. He loved sports, especially watching his sons play, and was a long-time supporter of Ascension Catholic Diocesan Regional School. He volunteered on many school committees and served as president of the Ascension Catholic School Board. He supported the school on a variety of levels, often behind the scenes. He was named the 2020 honoree for the Mother Seton Award, presented annually by each school in the Diocese of Baton Rouge to recognize an individual within the home and school community who exhibits the qualities of service and commitment to Catholic education. He will be remembered for his public service as judge to the surrounding parishes, his dedication to the community, and his unique ability to open-mindedly listen and counsel people in times of need. But above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Donations in honor of Pegram J.
