Peggy Ann Cheek Silhan, 74, passed away on Friday, December 25th, 2020 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on August 15, 1946 in Levelland, Texas to William Austin and Helen Lucille (Lewis) Cheek . Peggy married Charley Silhan, a life-long farmer, on April 18, 1969.
Peggy graduated from Morton High School in 1964 and went on to attend Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. There, she received her Bachelor's degree in Business and her teaching certificate in 1968.
In her professional career, Peggy fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a teacher. She taught for Morton ISD beginning in 1968 until her retirement in 1998. During that time she served as an English teacher, High School Librarian, and Computer Assisted Instruction teacher. Peggy was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Morton for most of her life and used her talents as a singer and pianist throughout the years in choir, special music performances and as a substitute pianist.
Peggy is survived by her husband Charley Silhan; son Eric Silhan and his wife Kim; daughter Lesa Hoyl and her husband Brad; daughter Stephanie Wright and her husband Kristopher; her sister Alice Quiett; her sister-in-law Linda Cheek; and grandchildren Jacob, Kimberly, Matthew, Samuel, Cooper, Evangeline and Veronica. She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Helen Cheek, brother William Cheek, brother-in-law Truman Quiett and granddaughter Brittany Silhan.
A Celebration of Life service is pending. The family is waiting for her husband, Charley, to return home from the hospital where he is currently healing from the COVID-19 virus. A service will take place after that time.
