Pauline Kay Bunyan
Help us celebrate Pauline! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Pauline.
Pauline Kay Bunyan was born in Georgetown, Guyana on March 3, 1951, to Arthur and Lucille Waddy. On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, God in His Infinite wisdom deemed her work as complete and called her home to be with him. In Guyana, she received her primary education at Smith’s Church Congregational school and afterwards pursued secretarial studies where she became an excellent Clerk Typist and Stenographer. This skill enabled Pauline to secure employment at the United Nations and at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York.
On April 17, 1976, Pauline was joined in Holy Matrimony to Frederick Bunyan and from this union four children were born; Fred Jr, Paul, John and Joy
In 1977 she migrated to Scotland with Kwesi and in 1978 they moved to New York.
In New York, Pauline and Frederick were members of Evangel Temple Ministries located in Laurelton, Queens during which time they formed the Love in Action Ministry which catered to the needs of the less fortunate. The team met once a month and would prepare meals where they would go to the Bowery, located in Manhattan, New York to feed the homeless and minister to the needy. As a result of their ministry many of those down and out in life changed their habits and gave up the way of life that was detrimental to their health. This ministry was very dear to their hearts and was carried on for many years.
When Pauline relocated from New York to North Carolina she was employed by the Federal Bank in Charlotte. Later she was employed by Home-In-Stead Senior Care where her love for the Lord was clearly displayed as a caregiver for several years. She greatly enjoyed working with the youth and on Saturdays she would volunteer to transport and minister to them in the Outreach Revival Church (ORC) located in West Charlotte. During the early years of her illness she volunteered at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen where she prepared her “signature” dishes of mac and cheese, rice and peas and barbeque chicken that fed members of the community.
Mom loved; her James Bond movies along with cooking out at the park, watching a movie with as many family members as possible, a good game of Headbands and was a master pro in Chinese Checkers. In headbands, she enjoyed participating but greatly enjoyed seeing everyone act silly which always made her laugh and grin from ear to ear. All of her children sang in the choir in addition she directed children's’ choirs. She was consistently involved with her children and grandchildren's scholastic & athletic endeavors, full of life and always had a warm full smile on her face. No matter the circumstance someone may be going through she would always be there for them whether it be through spiritual food/prayer or actual food. In all that my mother did in her life the MOST important thing was that the Lord was first and we were raised in this manner.
Pauline leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Frederick. 4 children Frederick Kwesi, Paul, John and Joy. Son-in-law Joshua. Daughter-in-law Natasha. Grandchildren; Zion, Nikita, Naomi, Solomon and Jhene. Sisters; Cheryl, Gillian and Sharon. Brothers-in-law; Lionel, Randy, Wendell, Hector Jr. & Keith. Sisters-in-law June, Chery, Brenda & Eunita. Nephews; Dwayne, Alistair, Jared and Jordan. Nieces; Dionne and Janae along with a host of great-nephews and nieces, cousins and dear friends.
