Help us celebrate Paula! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Paula.
Paula Ruth Wolf of Plano, Texas, passed away August 23, 2021. Born in East Berlin, PA, she was the daughter of Paul and Elaine Lerew.
Paula enjoyed a busy youth at Bermudian Springs High School, participating in sports, band and many clubs. She was the head majorette of the marching band. Her summers were spent as a life guard and swim teacher.
Paula attended West Virginia University where she was a member of their synchronized swimming team. She graduated with a degree in Recreational Therapy in 1969. Following graduation she worked for the Parks and Recreation Department in York, Pennsylvania and later, the Harrisburg State Hospital. There she helped many confused and troubled souls find their way through recreational therapy.
She met her husband Dudley while at Bermudian Springs High School and they were married in 1969, 10 days before his deployment to Vietnam. Together they traveled extensively and lived in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Virginia, North Carolina, and finally in Plano, Texas. There she was the owner of North Dallas Florist where her creativity, good taste, and eye for design were put to use. Many employees and customers became friends that lasted long after she retired.
Paula was a member of Preston Meadow Lutheran Church where she served as the Wedding Coordinator and also an Altar Guild member. She was a proud member of P.E.O. Chapter FV where she made many close friends and coordinated numerous fundraisers and social events.
Her crowning achievement was her family. She was a devoted mother who made every Christmas and birthday special. Through cooking, decorating the home, and planning celebrations, Paula took every opportunity to make an occasion fun for her family and friends. Known for being a generous hostess, she welcomed many into her second home in Hilton Head, South Carolina where she loved the beach and adored having visitors. Her family will most remember her sense of humor, her appreciation of beauty, and her willingness to be a champion and cheerleader for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Dudley, daughter Amanda and husband Scott Conner of Murphy, Texas, and daughter Jill and her husband Mitch Bennett of Atlanta, Georgia. She is reunited in heaven with her son Joey who died in 2019. She was particularly proud of her grandchildren Sydney, Andrew, and Molly Conner and Greta and Leo Bennett. She is also survived by her sister Anita and husband Ricardo Madsen and sister Dona Lerew, both of East Berlin, Pennsylvania.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 2:30 pm at Preston Meadow Lutheran Church in Plano. An open visitation will precede the service beginning at 1:30 pm. The family kindly requests that all guests are either vaccinated or have a negative Covid test if attending in person. The service will be live-streamed online at pmlc.org.
