Paul Raymond Rice, 85, of Oblong, IL passed away at home on Sunday November 7, 2021.
He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 16, 1936 to Everett R. and Millie F. (Sholders) Rice. On November 2, 1957 he married Norma Rose (Smith) Rice, who preceded him in death on April 2, 2009.
Paul was an Oil field worker, working the oil fields of Crawford County for over 35 years. He had worked at Mac Donnell Oil Company in Lima Ohio and at Crawford County Oil. He was a member of the Oblong First Christian Church, life member of the Moose in Robinson, IL, the Sons of the American Legion in Flat Rock and the Oblong High School Class of 1954. He enjoyed boating, camping and fishing on the Ohio River with Jeff. He was an avid Cardinals fan. For many years you could always count on Paul to be patrolling the streets of Oblong.
He is survived by a son Jeff and Vickie Rice Oblong, IL; two daughters and sons-in-law Vickie and Terry Ruddell, Oblong, IL and Lori and Duane Yager, Newton, IL; grandchildren Laurin and Nick Pressley, Zionsville, IL, Lyndee Ruddell, Wilmington, N.C., Cody Yager, Newton, IL and Tyler Kent Rice, Stoy, IL. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Judy Rice, Robinson, IL, Josephine Attaway, Robinson, IL, Marge Denton, Anderson, IN, Barbara Sharp, Effingham, IL, Shirley Warren, Casey, IL and Betty Ulrey, Robinson, IL along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, infant son Mark Douglas Rice, sister Marian Murley, brothers Richard Rice, Lowell Rice and Max Rice.
Celebration of Paul's life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday November 14, 2021 at Pulliam Funeral Home Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in Oblong Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to Oblong Christmas in the Park or Oblong Oil Field Museum.
