South Hadley MA - Paul Resler, 86, of South Hadley passed away on Monday November 7th at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Paul was born in New York on February 7, 1936. He was the son of Samuel and Rose (Falk) Resler.
Raised in Brooklyn New York, Paul could be often found playing stoop ball and stick ball in the streets with neighborhood friends. He later played baseball in the organized youth leagues. One of his favorite memories was playing against Sandy Koufax in these leagues.
Paul graduated in 1954 from a technical high school and followed in his father's footsteps into the printing and production trades.
Hoping to do something other than printing, Paul enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 after graduation. He was stationed in Japan and, when learning of his printing experience, he was assigned to work on the production of the Stars and Stripes. He received many letters of commendation. Paul returned home in 1957 and married his sweetheart (Francine) in 1958.
They relocated from Brooklyn to Wantagh NY in 1967 and raised their family in a tight knit community with the friendships made there, remaining throughout their lives. Paul began his career at Butterick Patterns where he worked his way up to Vice President of Production. He later moved to Progressive Grocer Magazine where he was again the Vice President of Production. He travelled often for work during the week but weekends were always for his family; coaching little league, watching Islander hockey games and playing tennis. Every summer there was a trip to Florida with the family and a required stop at an amusement park along the way. From a young age he had a love for cars and it was a family and neighborhood joke that when he disappeared for a few hours, he was likely to come home with a new car - it was always exciting to see what he brought home. Paul loved to travel and took Fran on many wonderful vacations around the world.
After retiring, Paul and Fran moved to Massachusetts to be near the grandchildren. He was a constant presence at their sporting events especially tennis matches. Tennis was his passion and he was overjoyed that his grandchildren shared his love of the sport. The grandchildren spent their summers at "camp papa" where Paul would take them and sometimes their friends out to lunch and on various adventures.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his brothers Maurice, Jerome and Irving. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Francine (Mucci), by his children Jeffrey (and Midori) of California and Stacy (and David) Tobin of Amherst MA, and his grandchildren Zachary Tobin of Albany NY and Kailey Tobin of Ithaca NY.
Paul was always an example of how to live a good life. Offering help to anyone who needed it, taking care of everyone in his orbit and being an amazing husband, dad and papa. His family and friends all felt so loved and protected by him. He was so loved and will be missed always.
Arrangements were handled by Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Honor Flight or Dakin Animal Shelter.
