Paul MercerPaul "Big Merc" Mercer, formerly of New Haven, CT, went home to our Lord on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Woodlake at Tolland. Paul was born in Danforth, ME on January 4, 1955.He is predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mercer, brother Mark Joseph, brother-in-law Raymond Darveau and sister-in-law Natividad Mercer. He is the brother of Susan Darveau, Cynthia Mont Jo-Ann DeNigris (Victor) and Michael Mercer, Sr. Big Merc was assistant coach to Coach Jimmy Reynolds of East Haven during the summer and fall season at Wilbur Cross High School and UConn. He was a volunteer coach at Farnam Community House in New Haven. Big Merc enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and working with the kids in the neighborhood. He truly had a special bond with children, especially his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Paul obtained his associate degree and pursued a career at the New England Regional Office (NERO) Nationwide Insurance in Hamden, CT, and Saab formerly of Orange, CT. The family would like to thank Hartford Hospital and Woodlake at Tolland staff for their loving care.Visiting hours will be held at Potter Funeral Home in Willimantic, CT on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd., Willimantic, CT.
