Paul E. Jones, 80, of Tellico Village. Tennessee, died March 3, 2024, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. A family memorial service was held in Tellico Village. Interment will be at the Rock Island Arsenal at 11:00 a.m. on June 7 and a Celebration of Life will be held June 7 from 1:00-3:00 in the afternoon at Steventon's in LeClaire.
Paul Jones was born on August 11, 1943, a son of James H. and Katherine (McEleney) Jones. He graduated from Fulton, IL, High School and Western Illinois University with Bachelor and Masters degrees in Physical Education. He married Marilyn Johnson in 1970, and they had 3 daughters. He later married Eddy Beghtol, the love of his life, on July 12, 1991, in Davenport.
Paul was drafted in 1968 into the Army and served 14 months in Viet Nam. He taught in Davenport at Jefferson Elementary, Williams Junior High, and Pleasant Valley High School. He coached at Williams Junior High School and Rock Island High School and was head basketball coach at Pleasant Valley. He also taught Drivers' Ed. for many years. He developed a superior MultiOccupations course at Pleasant Valley.
Paul was an active and vibrant man who lived with fervor. He always gave back to his community serving as co-chair for the Bix 7, serving as Director of the Lighted Boat Parade for 10 years and he was on the Pleasant Valley Foundation Board for many years. He was a member of LPYC, an avid Hawkeye fan, and a fan of the White Sox. He was a duck hunter and enjoyed fall and sitting in the duck blind. He loved Florida, but his lifelong love of the river was where he spent his happiest moments. He loved being called John Paul Jones and traveling on his boat with his wife Eddy.
Left to honor his memory are his wife Eddy, his daughters Stephanie Van Coevern (Brian), Michele Penake (Mike), Angela Moore (Brian), stepsons Jim Beghtol (Michele), Bob Beghtol, 7 grandchildren and a brother Walter Jones. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jerry Williams, and a brother Rich Jones.
