Paul McKendree Crawford, age 94, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina.
He was born on September 27, 1930, in Sylva, North Carolina, to John William and Flora Crawford. He will be remembered for his long railroad career, his love of gardening, his quiet and generous nature, and his sharp sense of humor.
Paul 'Mack' is survived by his sister, Mary Crawford Brown of North Carolina; his stepson, Ronald W. Byrd and wife Mary J. Byrd of Charleston, South Carolina; and his grandchildren: Ronald W. Byrd Jr. and wife Ana Byrd of Manassas, Virginia; Tiffany Dacuba and husband Michael Dacuba and their children, Gabrielle, Lleyton, and Zachary of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; Ryan Bousquet and wife Kate Bousquet and their son, Emmet of Colbert, Georgia; and Heather Bousquet of Dacula, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Flora Crawford; his wife, Sarah Naomi Crawford of Conyers, Georgia; his siblings, John Crawford and Frank Crawford of North Carolina; and his stepdaughter, Vicki Lynn Bousquet of Duluth, Georgia.
Paul "Mack" grew up in Scotts Creek, North Carolina, on his family farm, graduated from Sylva High School, and attended Appalachian State University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman, and following his service, returned to North Carolina to begin a 40-year career with both Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern Railway.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Chaplin Pat Cavanaugh officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Friday, September 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
