Patty Ruth Holcombe Montgomery died on June 5, 2023. She was born in 1934 to Nora Bradley and Walter Henry Holcombe in Iraan, Texas. Patty was the fifth of five children.
Patty's family moved to Pecos, Texas, in September of 1943. Patty started cooking for her family at an early age and was an excellent cook her entire life. She was an outstanding student, graduating from
Pecos High School in 1952. Her father and siblings graduated from Baylor University. Patty did as well in 1955, graduating with honors as a Business Major.
She returned to Pecos after graduating from Baylor and worked at the Security State Bank as a teller. She met Dudley Montgomery when she took his deposit on Valentine's Day 1956. They married in March 1957. Dudley went to work for the bank in 1960 where he continued to work until his retirement at the end of 2000. They have three daughters: Cecile, Cynthia and Amy.
Patty was active in church and civic work in Pecos. Patty and Dudley attended First United Methodist Church in Pecos where Patty taught Sunday School. She supported her husband's work at the bank and all of her daughters' activities. Patty's cakes and baked goods always brought the best prices in various community bake sales. Patty was a member of Twentieth Century Study Club for many years. She served as Secretary on the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School Board for nine years.
Patty was always a gracious and generous hostess. She loved people and she loved cooking for them. She had the gift of hospitality, always welcoming her family and friends into her home for holidays and special events.
Patty and Dudley moved to Lubbock in 2007. They joined First Baptist Church of Lubbock and became members of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class. Patty and Dudley made many cherished friends inthe class which was a highlight of their Senior years.
Through the years Patty and Dudley attended Bloys Camp Meeting. They loved the worship services and the friends they made there. Patty was a woman of great faith who deeply loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She genuinely believed in the power of prayer and was a fervent and faithful prayer warrior.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Montgomery, her parents, Nora and Walter Holcombe, her sister, Martha Holcombe Martin and her brother, Walter M. Holcombe. She is survived by her three daughters: Cecile Montgomery of Fort Worth; Cynthia Montgomery of Dallas; and Amy Miller and husband, Trey Miller, of Lubbock, as well as her grandson, Montgomery Miller, of St. Louis, Missouri, and his fianc?, Laurel Theriot. She is also survived by her sisters, Florence Holcombe Cummings of Gonzales, and Nora Holcombe Gray and husband, DeVearle Gray of Kerrville, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church on Monday, June 12, at 1 pm. In lieu of visitation the family will be available in the foyer of Ford Chapel after the service. A reception in honor of Patty will be held at Pecos Valley Country Club on Tuesday, June 13, at 1 pm. Additional information can be found at www.sandersfuneralhome.com.
