She married the love of her life, Brownie Reed Wood, on July 17, 1953. Together they had three children. Brownie and Nell moved to Greenville, Texas in 1968. They were married for 52 years until Brownie's passing. Throughout many of those decades they enjoyed traveling with their family in the motor home around the states, visiting camp sites and also an occasional cruise.

Nell accepted Christ early in life. She would be found reading her Bible and Guide Post every night. She was an active, committed member of Park Street Baptist Church from the time they moved to Greenville up until her health kept her from attending. She loved her church, singing in the choir and the members of her Joy class deeply.

Nanny was a precious, feisty, loving and loyal constant to all her family. Her house was in pristine condition all the time, filled with hundreds of figurines. You would always find her yard and flowers meticulously kept. Her Christmas-lit yard could be seen from blocks away each Christmas season. She was full of joy and laughter, loved to play cards (except UNO) and dice games, she constantly worked Sudoku and other puzzle games. She loved sitting on the front porch was the best neighborhood watch on her street of 50+ years. She made the best peanut brittle, turtle cake and spiced tea. She loved keeping in touch and you would often find her talking to friends and her family on the phone.
Nell will be missed deeply by all that knew her. She touched many lives across multiple generations during her time on earth. Those precious memories will be held forever in our hearts and kept alive through generations to come.
