Darlene Davis, 82, of Niles, MI, formerly of Buchanan, MI, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN.
Darlene was born August 13, 1940, in Buchanan, MI to the late Harry and Flossie Surch. Darlene started playing the piano at age 4 and the organ at age 10. She played for nearly 70 years at her churches in Michigan and Florida. With her God given gift, talent, and love for music she played at countless weddings, funerals and many gatherings, touching the lives of so many. Darlene was also involved in Bible study at several churches and an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Buchanan.
Darlene graduated from Buchanan High School in 1959 and named Cherry Pie Queen in 1958. On May 28, 1960, Darlene married Roger Allen Davis in Buchanan, MI. She was a loving wife and mother and had her hands in many things. She owned and operated Davis Daycare for 33 years, was a member of the Home Extension Club, and a Leader for both the Boys and Girls Scouts of America. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She made many baby hats for newborns at hospitals; scarves and hats for friends, strangers and homeless in need. She also enjoyed cooking and baking delicious cookies & desserts for many friends and so many crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Roger; daughters, Debbie (David) Davidson, Diane (Brent) Woerner and son, Dean (Diana) Davis; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert (Joyce) Surch and Rex Surch and grandson, Stone L. Davis.
Memorial service for Darlene will be held at 11am on March 18, 2023 at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan. Visitation will be held on hour prior to the service.
