Patrick Mitchell, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away August 1, 2020, at the age of 63 in Dallas. Pat had a double lung transplant in 2018 and fought a courageous battle that allowed him to see his son get married and three grandchildren be born.
Pat leaves his loving partner of 41 years, Sylvette Vazquez Mitchell; his daughter Danielle Oliver (Taylor), his son Michael Mitchell (Melanie) of Dallas; and his son Brian Mitchell (Taylor) of Austin. He has four beautiful grandchildren with a fifth due in November.
His parents Jan and Tom Mitchell precede Pat in death. He was born in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Pat excelled in school, graduating from Bishop Byrne High School and Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Pat joined the law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist in Dallas in 1982. He was a gifted and very creative tax lawyer, and was well known for his negotiating abilities in difficult transactions. Pat chaired the tax group at Jenkens and continued to do so when they joined what is now Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP. He served as board chairman at Jenkens and then Hunton until his illness.
Pat truly demonstrated and cherished life balance. Despite his obligations as a partner in a major law firm, he made time to coach both of his sons in football. His sense of loyalty and integrity to his faith, family and his firm define who he was and what he valued.
In addition to his immediate family, Pat is survived by his sisters Susan Mitchell-Ketzes (Alan) and Lynne Little (Perry); and his brothers Dan Mitchell and Mike Mitchell (Nikki). He has been a source of wisdom, guidance and encouragement for his numerous nephews and nieces.
