Patricia Q. Stubbing (Pat), age (91), died at Waltonwood Cotswold in Charlotte, NC on December 20, 2023. She was born on July 22, 1932 to the late Charles and Vera Quigg.
Pat lived a long and wonderful life and has a long list of accomplishments. She was the wife to Richard Stubbing and mother to their four children, Laura, David, Mary, and Matt and grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, Will, Kaitlin, Kyle, Meaghan, Sarah, Caroline, Emma, Anna, Shaughn, Emily, Kathleen, and Marshall, great grandmother to Kamryn, Crew, Sapphire, and Eleanor; and Aunt Pat to 29 nieces and nephews. She grew up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY, was a naval officer's wife in Turkey, mother of four under the age of 6, met with world leaders in Washington, DC and a family and career counselor/real estate investor in Durham, NC. She obtained bachelor's in social work and master's in education degrees from George Mason University. Pat was very proud of her garden and could be found frequenting the Durham Public Library often and she read the Wall Street Journal religiously every morning for 50 years. She was a member at Immaculate Conception Church where she sang in the choir for many years.
Pat is survived by her sisters, Mary Jane Barbrack (Hank) and Annabelle Wallace, her sons, David Anthony, and Matthew Stubbing (Holly), grandchildren, Will, Kaitlin, Kyle, Anna, Emma, and Shaughn McDonald; Meagan Pinizzotto, Sarah, Caroline, and Emily Pocock; Kathleen and Marshall Stubbing; great grandchildren Kamryn and Crew Pinizzotto, Eleanor Hodges and Sapphire McDonald, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard Stubbing, her brother, Charles E. Quigg, Jr, and her daughters, Laura Pocock and Mary McDonald, and her grandson, Chad McDonald.
A service in her honor will be held on Friday, January 5, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 810 W Chapel Hill St, Durham, NC 27701. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am, and the funeral mass will start at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Duke University to the Sarah B Duke Gardens or the Richard Stubbing Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Sanford School of Public Policy.
