Patricia Anne Rand (nee Hertzberger), age 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 after bravely enduring several years amidst the anxiety & confusion of Alzheimer's. Patricia was the beloved wife of the late Peter Charles Gordon Rand & loving mother of Margaret Elise "Peggy" (Joseph) St. Jean, Charles (Nicole Verspyck) Rand, Jeffrey (Danial) Rand, Andrew (Cheryl) Rand and Christopher Rand. "Patti" loved children & was the adored grandmother of Meredith Fendenheim, Rory St. Jean, Callie Yakubisin, Charlotte Rand, Cameron "Colby" Rand, Avery Rand, Ashley Rand-Torres, McKenzie Wright, Austin Rand, Chase Rand, Abigail Rand, Alexander Rand & great grandmother of Avery, Benjamin, Carter, Westin, Elijah, Eleanor, Leo and Lucas. She was the youngest daughter of the late Elsie & Percy Hertzberger & the beloved sister of the late Marlene (Lorne) Gamble and Lois (Gordon) Bergen. Patricia was admired for her silly humor, youthful energy, warmth & devotion to husband & family. A hard working & disciplined woman, she centered her life around a strong Christian faith. Patti's warm smile forged many friendships over a cup of coffee or a glass of good wine. She loved traveling to warm destinations & the company of her dear friends, nieces & nephews. The holidays & Christmas in her home were always beautiful, festive & joy-filled. After children, she worked in the admissions department at Western Reserve Academy & later at New Hampton Academy in NH. Before children & increased home responsibilities, she worked as a receptionist in several physician offices. In her 40's she spent several years as an EMT in Amherst, NH. Patti has always advocated for the less fortunate. While living in Amherst, NH, Patti, her best friend Helen & Rev Ed created a Christian based group - the "Sunshine Kids" for children & young adults with disabilities. The group was developed so that special needs children might have a place to socialize & do activities.
Patti was a Stephen's minister. She sat on the board of ARC Industries & helped to monitor group homes. Patti's youngest son was her passion & until her death, she advocated for him & all children/young adults with disabilities. In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials be made to either Hattie Larlham (www.hattielarlham.org) or ARC Industries for the developmentally disabled, 2780 Airport Dr. Columbus, OH 43219. May we all honor her by loving/helping those less fortunate or those who are mentally/physically challenged. Private family services to be held May 21, 2022 in Kitchener, Ontario Canada. The family would like to thank CrossRoads Hospice for the compassionate care given to Mum at the end of her life. Lastly, the family would like to thank the staff at Maplewood of Twinsburg for their many years of care & kindness. Arrangements by Johnson-Romito Funeral Home Hudson, Ohio. www.johnsonromito.com
