AMESBURY, Mass. - Patricia (Patsy) Francis Healy Prescott, age 94, died of COVID-19 pneumonia after battling Alzheimer's Disease on Friday, December 18, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Patsy and her beloved twin Polly were born in Concord, N.H., on September 25, 1926, to John and Margaret Healy. One of ten children, she grew up on the grounds of St. Paul's School roaming the playing fields and swimming in Turkey Pond.
She graduated from Concord High School and Mount Saint Mary's nursing school in Hooksett, N.H. along with her twin. After marrying Robert Prescott, she ended her nursing career to start a family. A devoted Catholic, she and Bob went on to have 11 children and over 66 years of marriage.
Patsy and Bob's large home on South Street in Concord was for decades a hub of activity, singalongs, improvised plays and parties. Both loved music and dancing. Each St. Patrick's Day, Patsy rolled back the carpets to Irish Jig with her children and teach the steps to neighbors. She welcomed guests for annual celebrations of the Feast of the Epiphany, and would always set an extra place at dinner for those in need of comfort and company.
Guided by unwavering faith and empathy, she took in young people with behavioral health issues for extended periods of time and supported organizations that treat mental illness. In the 60s and 70s, she was active in the peace movement, co-founded the New Hampshire Right to Life chapter, and campaigned for George McGovern.
Patsy was an artist at heart and encouraged creativity in all of her children. She loved painting, drawing, gardening and arranging flowers for Our Lady of Lourdes in Northwood, N.H., her parish for 30 years. She embraced the world through her love of classic literature especially Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and George Eliot.
Patsy personified Yankee thriftiness riding her bicycle throughout the streets of Concord, shopping at the food co-op before it was fashionable, and recycling before it was mandatory. She was truly ahead of her time.
Along with her parents, Patsy was predeceased by her husband Bob, son Steven, twin Polly (Swenson), and siblings, Mary, Margaret, Alice, John, Muffy, Nancy, and George.
She is survived by 10 children, Robert G. Prescott, II, William Prescott, Thomas Prescott (Pamela), James Prescott, Daniel Prescott (Valerie), Gail Heitmann (Scott), Margaret Butler, Denise Prescott (Eugene Paletta), Virginia Prescott (Matt Arnett), and Mark Prescott (Lisa Stringfield-Prescott); nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Sally Keniston; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Hundreds of family and friends followed and shared her COVID battle on Facebook and Patsy's loved ones are grateful for their support.
Patsy was joyfully remembered in a virtual memorial service and laid to rest at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord next to her husband and son. A celebration of her life will take place in the Summer of 2021.
Donations in her memory may be made to The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), of which she was an active member. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you wear a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bennett Funeral Home of Concord, NH.
