Passed away of pancreatic cancer in Sacramento, CA on Sunday August 4, 2013. A celebration of her life was held at Maeola E. Beitzel Elementary School in Elk Grove on Saturday, August 17, 2013.
Pat Martinez was born in Dorris, CA on June 25, 1931. She graduated high school in Angels Camp, earned a B.A. magna cum laude in Education from San Jose State College in 1952, and a Masters in Elementary Education from UC San Francisco in 1976. Pat Martinez first was a teacher in the Alum Rock Unified School District in San Jose from 1953 - 1958, and then transferred to the Elk Grove Unified School District in 1969. She was a popular first grade teacher and a mentor to many before retiring from Maeola R. Beitzel Elementary School in Elk Grove in 2010.
During her lifetime, Pat Martinez traveled to 24 countries in Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands region. She enjoyed movies and musicals and was an accomplished pianist. But most of all, she loved her family.
She is survived by her children, Sylvie, Mitchell, and Sean; her daughter-in-law Gloria; her grandchildren, Mayra and Tristan Shaw, Mariela, Alicia, and Alec; her brother, Clayton Lowell Hillhouse; sisters Sherry Duguay Anderson and Leona Duguay Sanguinetti; brother-in-law Michael Anderson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
