Patricia Allen Dreizler passed away June 5, 2022 at her home in Redondo Beach one week shy of her 96th birthday. She passed peacefully in her sleep after having many wonderful visits and much love from family and friends. She was born Patricia Joan Allen on June 12, 1926 in Independence, MO to Homer Allen and Faye Tarwater Allen. Patricia grew up in Independence attending William Chrisman High School and the University of Kansas where she met and married Robert Dreizler. They later moved to New Kensington, PA and Ft. Wayne, IN before settling in Redondo Beach in 1956 where their six children were raised. After they divorced in 1969, Pat was accompanied through life by Jeff Abbey who passed away in 2016. She remained a faithful Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU fan and could often be found at local KU basketball watch parties in support of her alma mater and her ancestry. She is the great-niece of Phog Allen, the father of basketball coaching, former head coach and player for the Jayhawks. After Patricia moved to Redondo Beach in 1956, she began volunteering for the city of Redondo Beach which eventually led to her position as Director of Community Resources making her the city's first female department head. She ended her 30+ year career with the city, retiring in 1989. Her volunteerism and generosity continued throughout her life with hundreds of committees and organizations that she chaired, facilitated, supported, coordinated and/or created. To name them all would fill pages of this publication as would the extensive list of individuals who call her their mentor. She was always willing to take others under her wing, answer questions about the city, offer guidance to someone on how to head up their own organization, or simply offer an invite to join the family for Thanksgiving dinner. She loved a good card game, puzzles, road trips, collecting antiques, turquoise jewelry, carousel figures, and southwestern art and decor. She could talk sports with the best of them and could even keep the score of a baseball game on a scorecard. She received hundreds of accolades for her many years of community service but it was always her family of which she was most proud. Patricia was a woman of strong faith. One of her favorite memories was decorating the cross for the annual Redondo Beach Easter Sunrise Service she helped establish in 1960. Originally held in the old band shell in Veterans Park, the event continues more than 60 years later. Preserving Redondo Beach history was paramount and The Redondo Beach Historical Museum was dedicated to Patricia in 1996. Her legacy also includes the Redondo Beach Unified School District's Board of Education renaming Redondo Shores Continuation School to Patricia Dreizler High School in November 2018. Twenty five years ago she started the Dreizler Family Scholarship at Redondo Union High School. Preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Faye Allen; sister, Sarah Allen Osasa and her faithful companion of more than 40 years, Jeff Abbey. She is survived by her six children, Robert "Laurie" (Bella) Dreizler of Sacramento, CA, Gayle (Doug) Bailey of Redondo Beach, CA, Carl Dreizler of Redondo Beach, CA, Loch (Annie) Dreizler of Arroyo Grande, CA, Robin (Dina) Dreizler of San Pedro, CA and Sarah (Jay B) Cummings of Heber, UT; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The date and location for her memorial service and celebration of life are pending and will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to RUHS Memorial Scholarship while noting Patricia Dreizler on the memo line and mailed to RUHS, ATTN: Shannon Rodriguez, 1 Sea Hawk Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
