Patricia L. Carter, a longtime resident of the Skagit Valley, died peacefully, surrounded by family at her home in Mount Vernon on June 14, 2021. She was born in Elgin, Nebraska on September 27, 1928 to William and Catherine Thramer. She graduated from BEHS and attended various junior colleges that prepared her for work as a bookkeeper and secretary in Seattle and beyond. Seventy years ago this month, she met the love of her life, Charles Carter, and married soon thereafter on February 15, 1952. A life in the Navy brought them to so many wonderful locations. She devoted herself fully to her four sons: Robert, Rick, Ron and Rod. Ultimately retiring here in the valley, she reveled in the growth of her family. She is also survived by four amazing daughters-in-law, Marcia, Stacey, Holly and Karen; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; Madonna Scerbik of Mount Vernon; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. We offer our thanks to Hospice for their kindness and to our Dad for his heroic, steadfast and loving care. We are so grateful to Mom for being such a selfless, loving inspiration in our lives. Her strength, unfailing love and devotion to family, despite her failing health, amazed us all and in large part, made us who we are?a grateful, loving family for whom her presence will abide forever. Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. A committal service will be held immediately after at the Green Hill Cemetery in Burlington followed by a reception in Mount Vernon.
