Pat Durham Thompson, age 92, died August 18, 2021. Services will be held at Stonebridge Church, Marietta, GA, at 2:30pm Sunday, August 29. She was born January 18, 1929, in Conway, Arkansas. Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her parents, Neva Ginny Crum Durham and Charles Edwin Durham, and her husband, Allen Rufus Thompson.
Mrs. Thompson graduated from Helena High School in Helena, Arkansas, in 1946. She attended Gulf Park College for Women her freshman year and then transferred to the University of Arkansas. She was active in the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Art.
In 1951, Mrs. Thompson married Rufus Thompson and they moved to Nuremberg, Germany. After competing his tour, the couple moved to Greenville, Mississippi, where they raised their family. Mrs. Thompson was active in St. James Episcopal Church, Greenville, and was an avid birdwatcher.
After the death of her husband of 64 years, Mrs. Thompson moved to Marietta, GA, to be closer to her children. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her 2 daughters, Mary Ward Wisnewski (Robert) of Montgomery, Alabama, and Patty Cantrell (Terry) of Marietta, Georgia. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Arbor Terrace of Burnt Hickory and Aberdeen Place Hospice (especially Mary and Beatrice) for the excellent care of their mother in her last months.
