Born in Roxbury, MA and educated in Methuen, she was the daughter of Charles and Luminosa (Lafond) Lavoie. She was a technician with Curtis Wright Company in Littleton, MA and was a parishioner at St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen. Her family recalls how she enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting and quilting. Carla J. (Rose) DeVol, 58, of Solsberry, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014. She was born in Sullivan, Missouri on August 26, 1955 to Carl Rose and Carol (Hoerath) Rose. Carla was a manager at K-Mart West in Bloomington. She had been with the company over 20 years. Mrs. DeVol was of the Christian Faith. She enjoyed singing, working puzzles and cooking for her family. Rosemarie Nichols, 85, of Ledyard, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Groton Regency Nursing Center. Rosemarie was born on March 30, 1923, in Rome, N.Y., the daughter of Michael and LeEtta (Conrad) Lynch. Rosemarie attended local schools and married Edward R. Nichols on June 26, 1956, he survives. Polly V. Stakley, 67, of 17 Meadow St., Mystic, was suddenly called home by her Heavenly Father on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011. Polly was born in Atmore, Alabama, on Oct. 25, 1943. She graduated from Escambia County Training School in 1961 and after many years in service of others, retired as a nurse from Fairview in Groton. Never one to rest, Polly continued to work at the Groton Subase until her passing. Mary Rose McCabe (nee Daly) passed away on May 27, 2018, after a long illness. Born in West Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Daly. Mary Rose was the beloved wife of the late Peter C. McCabe, Jr., of Wilmette, IL. They met at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. They raised five children on the North Shore of Chicago: Peter (Cindy), Anne (Jeff Lobelson, deceased), Frank (Ellen), Paul (Jocelyn), and Helen. Charles was born on September 3, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Charles and Hattie (Riemer) Engler. He spent his young years working hard on his grandparents' farm and learning many new labor skills. After high school, he worked in a machine shop and then enlisted in the US Navy in 1944, serving first as a machinist and then as a parachute rigger on various naval air ships. Charles met his sweetheart, Lelah Peden, through mutual friends. They were married in Rochester, New York on January 28, 1948. Gerd Edwin Paul Kaess was born Jan 9 1947 in Heutingsheim (now Freiberg am Neckar), Germany. He was the son of Paul Ernst Kaess and Dorothea Dorschke. He was baptized Catholic, but confirmed Lutheran. His stepmom was Hildegard Golz. He lived in Heutingsheim until 1965, when he immigrated to the USA. A 'pull' factor for him may have been his Kulhanek Cousins, who immigrated to the USA, by way of Venezuela, in 1956. Gerd settled in Chicago and met and married Marie Ellen Dawson in abt 1967. He had two identical twin sons. He worked as a Printer. He died tragically from an accidental drug overdose in 1972 in Chicago.
