John William Mikalian, 47, passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 26, 2017. He was born September 24, 1970 to Charles and Carol (Peterson) Mikalian. His father, Charles; uncle, John Peterson; and sister-in-law, Mary Therese; preceded him in death. On July 29, 1995, John married the love of his life, and his best friend, Susan Michele Nichols, who survives. Services were Friday, September 29, 2017, at Heritage United Methodist Church, followed by burial in the William Allen Family Cemetery in McComb. Sunny lived out her name and was a ray of sunshine. Catherine Ann Thurin, 80, passed away peacefully in the presence of her children at 5:24 pm on Tuesday, September 19th. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 8, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Staebler) Clancy. She was affectionately known to her Ohio family and friends as "Dee", a nickname given to her by her only brother and one that lasted a lifetime. Her brother, Daniel T. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Rose Polakoff. A memorial reception will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest in the Bill Sparkman Lounge at 10am on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. Alf was born August 26, 1917 in Zimmerman, to Andrew and Jorna (Sandvold) Valen. He attended District 41 Zimmerman school through eighth grade. He was a farmer, and a veteran of World War II. On November 3, 1943 he married June Eckman of Santiago. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Zimmerman. His interests included farming, his family, and the outdoors. Mr. Valen was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church Council, director of the Anoka Electric Co-op, director for the Glendorado Fire Insurance Company, he served on the local town board, and was a member of the American Legion. Her evangelist ministry included Community Outreach, Youth Ministry, Quartet Gospel Promotions, and Sunday Morning Gospel Radio on WBAB- Babylon, NY. In North Carolina, little 'Bert' attended Lumberton Public Schools, and would grow up to later find the love of her life, Vernon McEachin.
