PaekSim (Yi) Cox was born December 19, 1941, to Kiman Yi and Onya Bak in Hokkaido, Japan. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Yeosu, South Korea. She was the third oldest of seven children.
PaekSim left home at the age of 15 and moved to Seoul, South Korea. While working as a shop clerk, she met Avery Cox, a Soldier in the US Army stationed in Seoul. They were married July 3, 1965, at the Camp Kaiser Post Chapel Church in Seoul, South Korea. They started their life together in South Korea before moving to South Dakota and then making their permanent home in Fullerton, North Dakota. From this love, seven children were born.
PaekSim dedicated her life to her husband and children; no sacrifice was too small for her loved ones. She spent many hours gardening, sewing, baking, and knitting for her family. Throughout the years, she helped on the farm and worked at a tree nursery, sewing factory, and onion farm. She was no stranger to hard work and had a huge heart; there was never a lack of hugs or apologies.
PaekSim Cox rejoined Avery in heaven on May 8, 2021, in Oakes, North Dakota, surrounded by her children.
PaekSim is survived by three sons Amos (Katie) Cox-Waverly, MN; Andy Cox-Oakes, ND; Randy (Gretchen) Cox-Howard, SD; and four daughters Carolyn (Doug) Olson-Wishek, ND; Anna (Ken) Kern-Cedar Rapids, IA; Ona Hughes-Aberdeen, SD; and April (Kevin) Haring-Oakes, ND; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
PaekSim was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Cox; her parents Kiman and Onya Bak Yi; a brother; a sister; and father and mother-in-law Albert and Thersia Cox.
