P. Russell Taylor, 77, of Columbus, passed from this life at 6:12 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis.
Russell was born July 1, 1943, in Adair County, Kentucky, the son of Eary Paul and Carrie M. Burris Taylor.
He married Gloria J. Simmons October 27, 1963.
Russell was a dedicated husband, father, son, and brother. Outside of family, he directed his energy and character into a variety of community leadership roles. He had been a member of the Bartholomew County Library Board of Trustees, a church elder for decades, a volunteer with Clarity Care Center, participated in Book Buddies at Richards Elementary, as well as president and treasurer of his Homeowners Association. He retired from Cummins Engine Company after thirty years. He then became an admissions representative for University of Northwestern Ohio. Upon retirement after sixteen years, the school named a residence hall in his honor.
Russell was an avid golfer. He loved the game immensely, but it was the deep friendships forged over many years that he valued most. He can also claim two holes in ones over the years!
Another interest of Russell's was U.S. and Civil War history. Listening to music was yet another passion. Beyond his hobbies and work, Russell enjoyed closely following his children, grand and great grandchildren in their extra-curricular activities and sports.
Russell was a loving husband to Gloria of 58 years; children, Shari (Bob) Christman of Columbus, Daron (Debbi) Taylor of Naperville, IL and Ryan (Angela) Taylor of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Allison (Levi) Deckard, Dan Christman, Kate (Kevin) Augustyn, Hudson Taylor, Elise Taylor, Josiah Taylor and Micah Taylor; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donnie (Kristina) Taylor of Brown County and Steve (Charlene) Taylor of Columbus; and his twin sisters, Joyce (Ken) Gillaspy of Crothersville and Lois (Jay) Johnson of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
