Phyllis Jean Moretz Smith, 80, bargain shopper, expert story teller, professional phone talker, beach lovin', country cooking, hard huggin', picture taking machine, passed on Tuesday April 7, 2020. She was born on 3/21/40, in Lynch KY, daughter to Edward and Noble Moretz. Jean resided in Snellville, GA and was married to Paul Sidney Smith since 1958. She drove a school bus for several years, and worked at Rich's Department Store for over 25 years. She loved the simple things like great conversations, taking pictures and walks on the beach. Jean is survived by her husband Paul Smith, and three children Pam Smith, Buddy Smith & Lynn Smith. Also, her grandchildren Ashley Smith and Peyton Smith, and her sister Wanda Moretz Smith.
Jean never met a stranger, and could easily give you a complete family history while in line at the grocery store. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to feed people, there is no chance you ever left her house hungry. She lived in service of others and would go out of her way to help however she could. She always made sure everyone was taken care of before thinking of herself. She always had her camera, and when she wanted to take pictures, it was not optional. She did have a slight issue of photographing her finger as much as anything else, it just always found its way into the photos. She loved the holidays and family gatherings, and would make meals that could feed an army.
The one thing that meant the most to Jean, was family. She loved her three children, and two grandchildren, unconditionally. She was always there to help with advice, laundry, house cleaning, cooking or just an ear to listen. She attended all the sporting events and was the biggest cheerleader/fan. No matter the outcome, after she talked to you when it was over, you couldn't help but feel great. She was also there for the tough times, when a hug was needed, or just someone to sit with you. Jean always knew the right thing to do and say, which was a blessing.
Jean's greatest love was saved for her husband, Paul. They were married for 61 years. They were truly a team through the years, complementing each other in life. She lovingly spent those years taking care of Paul and wanted nothing more than to make him happy. Their relationship is an example of what marriage should be, through the good times and bad.
If you were to look up the definition of Wife, Mother & Friend, there should simply be a picture of Jean Smith. She defines exactly what each of those words mean. She will be missed every day...
