Owen Morse Busey (23) of Bloomington, Indiana died by suicide on March 3, 2021. Owen suffered from post-concussion syndrome and depression for the past five years.
He is survived by his parents Tom and Elizabeth Busey (Bloomington), his sister Hannah Busey (Washington, D.C.), and his four grandparents.
Owen was born in Bloomington in 1997. He graduated from Bloomington High School North and briefly attended Indiana University. He enjoyed being part of Bloomington's Little League baseball teams and two years playing with the Bloomington Outlaws lacrosse team. During a gap year in Palo Alto, CA he lived in a hacker house and learned about Blockchain Finance.
Prior to his concussion he enjoyed longboarding, snowboarding, and hiking. Owen was fascinated by complex ideas such as autonomous vehicles and brain data. He was a fearless Monopoly player as a kindergartner.
His family would like to thank the people of Bloomington, Indiana - specifically First United Church--Bloomington; faculty and friends from Indiana University including the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences; the Ethos Fitness community; the Park Ridge East neighborhood; and Midwest Powered Paragliding. We are grateful for guidance from the Missing Pieces Network, and for the love and kindness of friends and family everywhere.
Owen will be laid to rest in the Ash Garden of First United Church--Bloomington in a private family ceremony. This area is open to the public and can be visited during daylight hours near the sanctuary along Third Street.
Owen truly loved the three shelter cats that enriched his life - Valentine, Ginger Snap, and Mittens. Remembrances can be sent to the Bloomington (IN) Animal Shelter, or to an animal shelter in your community.
