Ottis Joiner
1934 - 2023
Ottis Joiner, 88, passed away on September 18, 2023, in Milton, Florida after a brief battle with lung cancer. Ottis was born on October 21, 1934, in Chumuckla, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Joiner, and their children: Patty and Wayne Hawthorne, Judy and John Belew, and Janet and Glen Strange. Ottis was also a proud grandfather to Brian and Amy Hawthorne, Jeff and Tabatha Hawthorne, Karyn and Eric Walborn, Adam Joiner, Chrissi and Christian Jenkins, Ali and Ben Ohler, Nicole and Andrew Kelley, and Thomas Strange. He cherished his great-grandchildren: Nolan and Danielle Hawthorne, Presley and Riley Hawthorne, Parker and Aiden Weekley, Max and Lydia Jenkins, Bram and Bayne Ohler, Anna Glen Kelley, and a great-grandson due in November; one great-great grandson Liam Hawthorne.
Ottis is also survived by his sister, Dottie Pugh.
Ottis was preceded in death by his brothers: Joe Joiner, Maxl Joiner, George Joiner, Harold Joiner, and Jack Joiner, as well as his sisters: Opal Harris, Dula Rabone, and Linda Jordan.
Ottis proudly served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954. He then went on to have a successful career at Monsanto from 1954 to 1993. Ottis was also a dedicated volunteer Camp Host at Bear Lake for many years.
Ottis was a faithful member at Faith Chapel Assembly of God where he also served on the deacon board. He loved his church family and attending church was one of his favorite things to do.
In his younger days, Ottis was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He also loved camping with his family for many years and attending southern gospel singings. At home most of the time he could be found outside or in his shop. If he was inside, he was watching southern gospel on TV or reading his bible.
A memorial service to honor Ottis's life will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour before the service.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons, honorary pallbearers
will be the members of the deacon board at Faith Chapel Assembly
