The storied life of Otis Jerrel Griffin began in Newnan, Georgia, when he was born on February 25, 1946, the son of the late Otis and Ada Verdell Brown Griffin. He might have been a "Jr," but his dad never had a middle name! His youth was filled with aunts, uncles, and cousins, as his mother was one of 13 children. His life choices would be greatly shaped by his dad and his uncles. His father was a painting contractor, and his uncles were well-known builders. He was fascinated by the prospect of envisioning a building or home from his first evaluation of a plot of ground, doing architect-worthy drawings, and seeing a project through to completion. Jerrel became well-known for his absolute attention to detail in all the fine homes and buildings he completed in Newnan and beyond. He only knew one way to do any job: to give it everything he had. Jerrel Griffin Construction was the hallmark of quality construction, and a completely satisfied customer was always Jerrel's goal.
Jerrel's life skill was his work, but in his spare time, he enjoyed a game of golf, following NASCAR, and being a great fan of Georgia Bulldog Football. Jerrel was a strong believer in the God who created him. Matthew 6:33 could easily have been his mantra: "Seek the kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need."
Jerrel's life here in this world came full circle on July 10, 2024. Cancer had waged a war in his body; try as he might, he could not win that battle. He slipped into eternity in the familiarity of the home he built with those he loved most caring for him.
Jerrel is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Doris, whom he married in 1978. His children are a daughter, Tammy (and Gunner) Grimm and their children Jeremy (Courtney) Roberts and Jordan (Kealea) Roberts; a daughter, Mandy (and Danny) Smith, and their children Austin (and Autumn) Duncan, Griffin (and Sara) Duncan; He is also survived by his son, Seth Floyd, Jr., and his wife Heather and their children Emily Pascavage, Madeline Pascavage, Seth Floyd III, and Ashby Floyd. Jerrel's great-grandchildren are Rhett Roberts, River Roberts, Presley Roberts, and Reese Roberts. A large, extended family of cousins also survive him.
Jerrel's good and productive life will be remembered, and stories will be shared by friends and family during a visitation to be held on Saturday, July 13th, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street in Newnan, GA. The service to honor his life will be on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home at 2:00 PM and will be led by Pastor Jeff Smith. Interment will follow at historic Oak Hill Cemetery. The love he shared and the stories that will be told will forever be a part of the lives of all who loved and cared for him. They are called precious memories for a very good reason.
