On September 16, 2022, Otila Sanchez Ramirez, slipped the bounds of this world to begin life anew, one everlasting with our loving God. She walks the path of those that went before, most closely with whom she held most dear, her brother, Walton (Pinky) Sanchez, and her parents, Eduardo and Otila Sanchez.
Otila was born on September 1, 1948 in Mission, Texas, the 3rd child of 7 siblings. An intelligent and curious person, she dedicated herself to her studies, excelling in school and earned a bachelor's and master's degrees. A career educator, she touched countless lives as a teacher at La Joya High School, Juarez High School and South Texas College (STC). She gleefully shared her stories with family and close friends. It was Otila's path to prioritize higher education, setting the stepping stones for her own three daughters to earn not only bachelor's degrees, but to strive and earn graduate degrees as well.
She loved to travel and always had bags-packed to visit her daughters and grandchildren. Though plane rides were preferred, she saw the beauty of long, rainy drives, serenaded by George Strait playing over her speakers.
Otila leaves behind 5 siblings, Araceli Sanchez, Luis Sanchez, Eddie Sanchez (Alma), Elizabeth Garza (Joe), and Lydia Perez; three daughters, Michele Ramirez-Castaneda, Denise Ramirez, and Dr. Janelle Ramirez Stewart; and five grandchildren, Danielle Garza, Jacqueline Castaneda, Cristian Garza, Caitlyn Stewart, and Jiselle Stewart.
She created a grand legacy, and the world is a better place for having had her in it. Let her life be an example of how to lead our own -- arriving at our destination, our bodies worn from experience, and weighed by bearing the weight of lifting those that we love higher than we could ever lift ourselves.
A visitation for family and friends will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022 between the hours of 2:00pm and 6:00pm at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen. A recitation of the holy rosary will begin at 4:00pm.
