Oris Durelle Vaughn of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the age of 94. Oris was born October 16, 1927 in Tippo, Mississippi. In 1945, Oris enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany, ultimately attaining the rank of Sergeant. After returning home, Oris earned a civil engineering degree from Louisiana State University in 1954. Although he remained a lifelong loyal LSU Tiger fan, Oris moved to Texas upon graduation, working his entire career in the Golden Triangle area and retiring from Synpol, Inc. in 1986.
In 1958, Oris married Jeannette Wright Vaughn at the church where they first met, First United Methodist Church in Beaumont. Jeannette and Oris remained active members of FUMC throughout their lives. They also loved to travel together and spend time with their many friends and relatives, particularly their three grandchildren, of whom they were immensely proud. Oris was a kind and gentle soul, a helpful and loyal friend, and wonderful husband and father. He is greatly missed.
Oris is survived by his son Steven Vaughn of Beaumont; his daughter Kathryn Vaughn Artlip (Mark) of Bellaire, Texas; his grandchildren, Michael, John and Allison Artlip of Bellaire; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Oris was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette Vaughn; his parents, Bryan William Vaughn and Claudia Seale Vaughn; his brother Bryan M. Vaughn; and his sister Glenda Vaughn Lester.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas 77703, followed by a celebration of Oris' life at 2:00 p.m. The burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park,
