Orilla Jernigan, 91, of Slaton, passed away February 1, 2019.
Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, February 3 at Englunds. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 4, at First Baptist Church, Slaton. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery, Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Orilla was born September 29, 1927 in Roaring Springs to Commodore Maurry and Ola Mae Thomas. Her family moved to Shallowater in the 1930s. She married Thomas Edwin Powe, Sr, in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1972. She married Bill Jernigan September 6, 1974. She worked for many years in grocery stores, starting with Furr's, then Shop Rite, which became Piggly Wiggly, and then retired from United. She and Bill moved to Slaton in 1985.
She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Barry James and Maurry Mark Thomas; her sister, Madaline Kinder; her grandson, Casey Powe; her great-grandson, Bryson Powe; and her step-son, Billy Mack Jernigan.
Orilla is survived by husband, Bill; her sons, Tommy Powe, Jr. and wife, Marcia of Shallowater, Jerry Max Powe and wife, Camille of Slaton, and Marvin Glen Powe and wife, Candy of Paducah; her daughters, Dianne Smith and husband, Jerry of Lubbock and Tonya Blackburn and husband, Rod of Lubbock; her sister, Wyoma Burleson of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.
The family suggest memorials be made to Thomas Powe in reference to Casey Powe Memorial at Peoples Bank, the First Baptist Church of Slaton Youth Fund, or a favorite charity.
