Olubanke Olukemi Akinjaiyeju was born in Washington, DC, on September 24th, 1969, to Dr. Johnson Adegunleye and Mrs. Ronke Adegunleye. She is the first of two children to the couple, her younger sister being Dr. Folashade Adetoro.
Banke attended elementary school at Chillum Elementary in Hyattsville, Maryland, and then was taken to Nigeria for high school. She and Shade attended Baptist High School, Saki, and later graduated from Polytechnic High School Ibadan.
She obtained her undergraduate degree at Howard University and completed a Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of San Francisco, California.
A loving wife to the love of her life Dr. Tolu Akinjaiyeju and mother to her children Tioluwa, Tioba, and Tiyanu-Judah. She modeled Christ in her home, ensuring that her children were raised in Christ and praying daily, standing in the gap for her family. Fondly known as Pastor ‘B’ to her congregation at Called Out Christian Ministries, she was called to serve, and served she did well! She was a loyal anointed shepherd who was intentional about leading by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Christ reflected in all of Olubanke’s being, evident even until she was called to glory. She loved to make people smile and was very organized. She loved planning and hosting events, participating in beauty pageants and cultural day events. Banke loved life and made it her mission to ensure that anyone around her had to enjoy it with her. Her innate ability to multitask meant that she had diverse interests and the ability to get more done in twenty-four hours than some do in a week. Her natural apt for design stemmed from her dad, an architect, and nurturing side from her mother. You will always find her planning and designing different projects. A visionary with the knack for seeing the end of a thing from the beginning.
An avid lover of education, PhyChemBio/ FiKemBa was synonymous with Olubanke. She was rooted and vested in consistently imploring her children, nieces and nephews, and the children of her friends to aspire to achieve their academic endeavors with the help of the Lord. Genuinely vested in the lives of children, she was always supporting, encouraging, advising, and praying for them.
Banke touched so many lives. What can we say about this? She inspired many young and old in various ways. Many people will undeniably attest to her impacting their lives uniquely, spiritually, personally and socially. Anyone who knew Banke knew she was very clear to read, truly an open book. What you saw was what you got. A natural giver who was generous, there was never a time she was not looking for ways to be a blessing to others in the name of the Lord. It was effortless for her to be generous to others because she lavishly gave of herself to the glory of God.
Her youthful glow stemmed from the vibrant life she lived in serving the Lord wholeheartedly and loving others. Her energy was infectious, and no one around her could be slow. She was full of life and had a natural ability as a go-getter meant that you had to succeed with her. Anyone who knew Olubanke knew she was born to soar, and soar she did! A vivacious planner, she never left God out of the equation of her life. She was a virtuous woman who dreamt big with her husband giving up her career as a Doctor of Pharmacy to start their thriving pediatric clinics while serving as Pastors at their church, Called Out Christian Ministries.
Olubanke Akinjaiyeju has transitioned home-- heavens gain but a great loss to earth. Her life will forever be an indelible example of God’s reflection. She ran her race, staying on the course, fighting the good fight of faith. She ended well, imparting the prescription of authentic Christianity, a life surrendered to the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD through a relationship with Jesus Christ. For “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment, the fixed order for all men is to die once only, and to be judged after death,” Hebrews 9:27. Will she see you later?
