Oliver "Coach" Phillips, age 69 of Athens entered into rest on February 2, 2021. Coach was a native of Twin City, GA and a retired educator of the Walton County School System after 35 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mattie Morrison Phillips and family, Donna Regina Hill (Derek) and Daren Edward Morrison. Coach Phillips' granddaughters, Lindsay Regina Scott and Shayna Elizabeth Bishop, and grandson, Devon Edward Morrison will miss him and all the great times they had together as his special grandchildren. His great grandchildren, Aaden, Eric, Andrew, and Rania will forever remember the moments he shared with them.
Coach Phillips' sisters, Nora Stanford and Martha Parrish (Tom), along with niece Asha Stanford, and nephews James Bernard Turner (Susie) and Christopher Stanford will hold special times and memories together. His great nieces and nephew include Jamila Carlyle, Jasmine Bady, Erin Sanford and Alex McCollum (Chelsea). Family members describe Coach Phillips as a wonderful and caring brother and the best uncle and great uncle you can ever have. A host of many friends, and former students in the Monroe area community will cherish the special memories of Coach Oliver Phillips as a great PE teacher and a friend.
Visitation begins on Friday, February 5th beginning at 2:00pm-7:00pm. Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, February 6th at 11:00am at Evergreen Memorial Park.
