Odell Leo Bratland, age 95 of Chanhassen, and formerly of Spring Grove, MN passed away on Sept. 19, 2023 at St. Francis Regional Hospital in Shakopee, MN.
He was born on Oct. 22, 1927 in Wilmington Twp., rural Spring Grove to Albert and Hannah (Solberg) Bratland.
He was a Spring Grove High School graduate, and later served in the United States Navy.
On Feb. 20, 1954 Odell married Margie Esch. He attended Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis. Odell was an overseas training advisor for Dunwoody. He with his wife Margie traveled to Khartoum, Sudan where he was named adviser to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). He then traveled to Seoul, Korea in the 1970's where he was named a World Bank advisor to the Korean Ministry of Education. Later in January of 1975, Odell and Margie arrived in Saudi Arabia to spend over ten years with Aramco Training Operations, as a Supervisor for Central Area On-the-Job training and later assistant of the Central superintendent of the Central Area Job Skills Section, he left this job to retire in Florida, and later moved to Chanhassen, MN.
He was a member of The American Legion, the VFW and the Elks Club for over seventy years. He and Margie enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Margie of Chanhassen, MN. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Gladys) Bratland, Burnell (Louella) Bratland, Roland (Ann) Bratland, Glenn (Elvina) Bratland, Vernon (Pauleen) Bratland, and sister and brother-in-law, Harriet and Oberlin Newgaard.
Odell loved his God, Minnesota, was proud of his Norwegian heritage and especially his home town of Spring Grove.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.
Pastor Elizabeth Hermeier officiated.
Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites provided by American Legion Post #249 of Spring Grove.
Friends called on Monday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until time of service.
The family respectfully requests memorials be given to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Eden Prairie, MN or Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.
Roble Funeral Home of Spring Grove assisted the family with arrangements.
