O'Lema Cody Morgan, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Born on August 14, 1928, in Albemarle, NC, she was the daughter of the late David Emmett Cody Sr. and Mary Mabry Cody.
O'Lema spent most of her life in Forest City, North Carolina, with her late husband, Robert "Bob" Morgan. Eventually they moved to Hickory, NC so they could be closer to family. After his passing, O'Lema moved to Clemmons, NC to be closer to family. In her later years, she found joy and friendship at Trinity Elms Independent Living, where she cherished the friendships she made. Her warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.
She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Forest City, NC, where she played a vital role in various church activities, including serving as a Girls' Auxiliary leader, Baptist Training Union, and Sunday School teacher. Professionally, she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Rutherford Mental Health.
Her servant heart was evident in her willingness to assist wherever needed in her community. She had a variety of interests, including playing bridge, swimming, and passionately supporting the Carolina Tar Heels in basketball. Alongside her late husband, she enjoyed participating in the local dance club and sought out new adventures through travel with local tour groups. She found great delight in watching her great grandchildren play sports and participate in school activities.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert Worth Morgan and her brother David Emmett Cody, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Morgan Goodman of Clemmons, NC; two grandchildren, Will Goodman and his wife, Jana, of Fountain Inn, SC, and Becca Williams and her husband, Brandon Williams, of Clemmons, NC. O'Lema was also a proud great-grandmother to Isaac John Williams, Joseph Morgan Williams, Carleigh Mason Goodman, David Stephen Williams, and Haley Florence Goodman. She is also survived by dear nieces and a nephew: Debbie Hayes, Christie Cavitt, David Cody, and Dolly Lutz and their children.
A service to celebrate O'Lema's life will be held Saturday, August 24th at 2pm in the chapel of The Padgett and King Mortuary in Forest City, NC. A private inurnment will follow.

O'Lema's legacy of love, grace, and generosity will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
