Norris W. Moore, 73, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Norris was born in Scottsburg, Indiana on November 25, 1945, the son of Wayne and Frances Moore. He married Mary Echsner on June 13, 1997. He graduated from Charlestown High School and Indiana State University and then obtained two Master's
Degrees from IU Kelly School of Business and Purdue.
He lived a very selfless life, and never met a stranger. Norris was passionate about his faith and was very active in the Church throughout the years. He served as a Deacon at the First Christian Church in Columbus as well as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Edinburgh, as well as a member of St. Anne's in Ruskin Florida.
Norris spent most of his career in the teaching field. He taught at Scottsburg High School, Columbus East and North, McDowell Adult night school, IUPUI, Ivy Tech, Edison College and Sylvan Learning Center. He taught a total of 39 years.
Norris had a very diverse work history along with teaching. He worked for the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, Brands in Columbus, Nissan in Naples Fl, and made ice cream at Fearrin's in Nashville. He was a chimney sweep and he worked at the powder plant in Charlestown. He was a painter with Jack Young and he invented a process of putting candles in glass jars and sold them in Nashville. He was also an accountant for several firms in Columbus.
Norris loved reading, hiking, motorcycling, wine making, biking, traveling in his motorhome, and camping with friends and family. His most passionate love was pickleball. He and his wife Mary started pickleball in Columbus in 2016.
Norris is survived by his wife, Mary, of Columbus and Apollo Beach, Fl, son Eric (Joan) of Cincinnati, daughter Amy (Tim) of Naples, Fl, sister Kay and nephew Kurt (Leslie) of Jeffersonville, He is also survived by grandchildren Mallory Smith, Ethan Mooney, stepgrandchildren Sydney and Spencer Kuritar and grandniece Anna Reschar.
Norris and Mary spent many years in Fl as snowbirds residing amongst many friends at Southshore Falls in Apollo Beach Fl.
