Norrecia Ruth Sims, 82, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in Odessa. Ruth was born on November 7, 1938 in Sheffield, TX to Jeff L. and Billie G. Smith. She moved around the country with her family before finally settling in Odessa in 1952. She attended Austin Elementary, Bowie Jr. High, and graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. She served on student council and excelled in the arts and had an outstanding voice. In 1956, she met the love of her life, Floyd Sims and they were married in 1957. Together they raised two sons. She and Floyd celebrated their 64th anniversary on February 14 of this year. Ruth loved music and sang professionally in the recording industry. She especially loved being a part of the Odessa College Choir under the direction of her High School director, Maurice Alfred. She spoke fondly about their trip to Switzerland. She continued singing in the First Baptist Church choir until her retirement. She loved her Sunday School class and many friends at First Baptist Church. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Jeff L. and Billie G. Smith; in-laws Robert Sims, Katherine and Bill Coffee; nephew David Smith; and brother-in-law Frank Hudgins. She is survived by her husband Floyd Sims; sons Robert Sims and wife Susan, Mike Sims; grandchildren Nikki Sims, Scott Sims and wife Casey, and Chris Sims; and great-grandson Jaxson Sims; brother Jeff Smith and wife Elaine of Valiant, OK; sisters Theta Allen of Del Rio, TX, and Elaine Hudgins of Palestine, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Last but not least, she is survived by Sparky and Ginger. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 14, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with Tim Bowington officiating.
