The world became a little sadder Tuesday, January 18, 2022, when Norm took his final breath. Norm was blessed to be a husband for 54 years to Cheryl, a dad to Matthew (Erika), Joseph (Lori) and Mary Frances (Richard), a grandpa to Kelli, Joshua, Allison, Emma, Ryan, Andrew, Hunter, Matthew and Nicholas, a brother to Ann (Dennis) Wiesenstein and an uncle to Jean and Tommy. He is reunited with his father Matthew "Pops", his mother Tillie and his step-father Charley.
Norm was born in Chicago where that mentality allowed him to survive as a Veteran of the Vietnam War and as a Chicago Police Officer for almost 30 years. As a police officer, he earned many merits. He never asked for them, he was just doing his job. One of those merits was delivering a breached baby in a cab in downtown Chicago. Norm would teach you to actually do something correctly or to use "polished ingenuity". Norm would always be looking for that winning scratch-off lottery ticket and spending time down south on the "Farm" He would sit on his couch and tell jokes, stories, or dish out advice on any issue to his family and if you were wrong, he never ignored you. In fact, if he conversed with you, it meant that he liked you. He would always have your back no matter what and would give you the shirt off his back if necessary. He was proud of all his family. He was not just a husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle or friend. He was NORM and he left his mark wherever he was or whoever he talked with.
In lieu of flowers, Norm would like donations in his memory made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Paralyzed Vets of America.
