Norma "Jean" Whitehorn peacefully passed away in her home on July 17, 2021, at the age of 93. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on July 8, 1928, to Lester and Erma Shelby. On August 17, 1947, Jean married Ralph L. Whitehorn and began their long and wonderful life together. They were childhood sweethearts. Ralph's telephone career moved them to many places, but in 1958 they landed in San Angelo and remained in San Angelo to raise their three children. Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She retired from the SAISD as a teacher's aid, working in Special Ed. As a beautiful wife and mother, she found real joy in building a loving home for her family. She and Ralph enjoyed traveling and camping with friends and family for so many years. No doubt, she had many friends and loved them dearly. She cherished her Friendship Class at Southland Baptist Church. She would always say how truly blessed she was to have such wonderful friends. As her granddaughter, Erica, said a few days ago about her grandmother, "I hold her up on the highest pedestal! I've never known another person besides my mom (Jean's daughter, Debbie) as amazing in every aspect as her. She was superwoman. Strongest rock and biggest supporter! Gonna miss her so much!" We all will. Preceding Jean in death were her parents Lester and Erma Shelby; husband Ralph; sister Sue Shelby; brother Don Shelby and his wife Betty; son Lonny Whitehorn; and daughter Debbie Fielder. Jean is survived by her daughter, Connie Baker and husband Fred of San Angelo; granddaughters Erica Finley and husband Scott of Austin; and Morgan Bacia and husband Adam of Austin; grandson Zachary Jackson and fiance Meredith Morvant of San Angelo; and great grandchildren Zane and Fielder Finley, Zephery, Zaijhaa and Zaiden Jackson; and nieces Donna Taffs and husband DeWayne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mary Bullock and husband Larry of Stillwater, Oklahoma; nephews Larry Whitehorn and wife Jan of Arkansas; and Robert Whitehorn and wife Kim of Arkansas. Jean's family offers many thanks to all nurses and aids with Solaris Hospice, as well as all the caregivers with Comfort Keepers. The informal viewing will be Tuesday at Johnson's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel in San Angelo with Rev. Chris Curran officiating. A graveside service will be held after the church service at Lawnhaven Cemetery with Rev. Jill Fulghum officiating. Pallbearers are Fred Baker, Zach Jackson, Scott Finley, Adam Bacia, Zane Finley, Fielder Finley and honorary pallbearer, Bud Waller.
