Norma went to be with her beloved Savior on Sunday night, September 4, 2022, just 20 minutes shy of her 88th birthday. In typical fashion, Norma's doting husband of 70 years, Alfred, went to make sure all was arranged and ready for her just 6 short weeks before. While her family grieves the loss of Norma's sweet, witty, loving friendship, they celebrate two young love birds together again -- forever.
Norma was born in Lolita, TX on September 5, 1934. She graduated from Lolita High School at 16 and went on to attend business school in San Antonio. Norma married the love of her life, Al, at 17 years old.
Norma was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A lover of animals, it wasn't uncommon to find Norma keeping the neighborhood strays well fed, well fussed over, and well conversed.
She enjoyed a career in banking for over 35 years and spent many years volunteering at various hospitals.
More than anything else, Norma and Alfred enjoyed spending time together. Whether it was seeing the world on overseas cruises, antiquing, or spending time with friends and family.
Norma is survived by her sister Peggy Hawkes and brother-in-law Darrell Hawkes of Paris, TX; daughters, Candie and son-in-law Chris Wicker of McAllen and Cindie and son-in-law Lewis Brazelton of Houston; grandchildren, Nichole (Victor), Tara (Karl), Hattie, Emmory, and Tatum. Norma is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Eleanor, Estella, Owen, Dax, and Decker.
For all those who knew Norma, she will be greatly missed.
A family funeral service is being held.
