Dr. Norma Jean McLuckie Delaney January 16, 1938 - July 5, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Norma Jean McLuckie Delaney announces her passing on July 5, 2021 at home in Oxford, Fl. Norma was 83. She was born on January 16, 1938 in Cumberland, Maryland. She resided at Clover Hill Farm near Flintstone, MD, until her marriage on June 20,1959 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland.
Norma graduated from Fort Hill High School (1955). She earned a Bachelor's Degree (1959) and a Master's Degree (1968) in Education at Frostburg State University. She earned a Doctorate of Education Degree at the University of Maryland (1984). She worked as an elementary teacher, principal, and supervisor in Frederick, MD, Hyndman, PA, Monona Grove, WS, and LaPlata, MD for 32 years and after retirement in 1992, as a computer lab teacher (K-8) at St. Mark's Episcopal School in Fort Lauderdale, FL for 3 years; then she worked as a director and successful grant writer for the Cumberland YMCA in Cumberland, MD. After moving to Summerfield, FL in 2006, she was a curator for the Lady Lake Historical Society and Museum for 10 years until her retirement from the museum in 2017.
She is survived by her best friend and husband of 62 years, William Joseph Delaney; son, Jay Glenn Delaney and wife, Dawn of Macedonia OH, grandson, Calvin Delaney; daughter Joy Lynn Delaney of Stratham, NH; grandson Laith; and daughter Julie Anne Delaney Corley and husband, Christopher of Napa, California; grandson, Jackson and granddaughter, Ruby. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Norman McLuckie and Rebecca Mae (Edna)McKenzie McLuckie.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church in Summerfield, Florida on July 28 at 10 AM.
A Memorial Mass will also be held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland, Maryland on August 3 at 11 AM, followed by burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Donations should be made in Norma's Honor to the Lady Lake Historical Society in Lady Lake, FL or the Frostburg State University Class of 1959's Educational Scholarship Fund.
