Nora Goldner
Help us celebrate Nora! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Nora.
Nora was born on October 10,1919 and passed away in the Villages, FL on February 21, 2021 at the age of 101.
She lived in New York City with her mom Esther and dad Hyman Kovadlo and two older sisters and was definitely the most precocious of the three girls. She graduated from Evander Child's High School and then in 1942 from Traphagen School of Design. Her work appeared in many design magazines.
Nora met her husband, Ben, at a synagogue dance in the Bronx. They married while Ben was in the army and lived in Tudor City. They eventually settled in River Edge, New Jersey, where they raised their two children, Carol and Alan. They also had a summer home in Montauk, Long Island, where they had many happy memories. When Ben retired from his law practice, they moved to Margate, Florida in the 1970's, where they both became very involved on the board of the local senior center.
In her 60's, Nora went back to school at Broward Community College and the graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in theater, which definitely suited her personality. Her family was very proud of her accomplishments.
Nora and Ben traveled the world and enjoyed every minute. She encouraged her family to do the same..."Do it while you can because one day you can't"...was always her motto.
In their later years they moved to independent living in Coral Springs, Florida. Several years later, after Ben died, Nora moved to The Carriage House in The Villages, Florida to be near her daughter, Carol and her husband, David.
Nora saw life, literally, through rose colored glasses, which she always wore. She taught her family "Nora-isms", instilling in them her philosophy on life..."from bad things, good things happen."
Her family adored her and thought that she was an incredibly eccentric and funny person. There was never a dull moment when Nana, as we called her, was around. The entire family was together to celebrate her 100th birthday in 2019. All who attended dressed up in leopard, which was Nora's signature look!
Nora is survived by Carol (David) Cohen, Alan (Ellen) Goldner, three grandchildren, Michael Haber (Kellie), Josh Goldner (Tamar), and Rachel Stein (Mark). Nine great grandchildren, Colsen, Hampton, Gage, Itai, Shelly, Asaf, Tam, Adam and Jordan. She is also survived by Ollie, her friend and nurse.
If you would like to honor Nora's memory, please send donations to the Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, Florida. In the future, her family will have a celebration of Nora's life in Montauk, New York.
