Ninfa Salinas, 94, passed into the loving embrace of our Lord Jesus on Friday, January 10, 2025. She died peacefully at her residence in Mercedes, TX.
Ninfa was the daughter and last surviving member of the Guadalupe/Leonor Solis family which included sisters, Esperanza Solis, Consuelo Saenz, Leonor Pumarejo and brother Daniel Solis. She is survived by her six children: Jose Luis (Angelica) of McAllen, Diana (Fred) of Houston, Rigoberto Jr. (Pamela) of Houston, Jorge Alberto (Paula) of Mercedes, Miguel Angel (Dalia) of Houston and Raul Rolando (Ida) of Mercedes.
Ninfa adored her grandchildren, Joseph Salinas, Liza Salinas, Matthew Ryan Salinas, Kaylee Salinas, Jonathan Salinas, Brianna Salinas Cortino, Louie Salinas, Sarah Salinas, Mike Salinas, Alex Salinas, Liana Salinas, Ariana Salinas, Matthew Isiah Salinas and four great grandchildren, Jude, Tyler, Caleb & Adelynn. She also loved her nieces, nephews as well as her many loving church and work friends.
Born August 28, 1930 in La Villa, Tx., Ninfa attended Mercedes High School where he graduated in 1949. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Rigoberto Salinas. They married in 1950 and dedicated her life to her husband and family. After raising her children, she was employed at Texas A&M Extension service for 18 years where she shared her love of cooking healthy meals with young mothers.
Known as Ninfita to her church friends, she was a faithful and very active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes. She was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, a lector, taught baptismal classes to parents & godparents and in her early years, catechism classes to young children.
Ninfa was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend plus shared her love through her cooking. She loved hosting big gatherings for family and friends on special occasions and holidays. She truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. We will always remember her smile, her laughter, her story telling, her delicious pies & empanadas and most importantly her faith in God and the Blessed Mother Mary.
Mom, we are joyful that you are once again reunited with dad, your sweetheart.
Visiting hours for Ninfa Salinas and to share her memories will be held Monday Jan 13, 2025 from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. with the praying of the holy rosary at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday Jan. 14, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Mercedes, Tx. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes, Tx.
