Nick Mumley, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Columbus, Indiana passed from this life on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 7:29 a.m. surrounded by his loving family at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Nick was born on January 26, 1937, in Wheeling, West Virginia the son of Nicholas and Mary Mihalovich Mumley, Sr. On August 16, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart Vivian "Sue" F. Mudge Mumley.
Nick and Vivian attended Wheeling High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He was selected as West Virginia's Mr. Basketball in addition to later being inducted into the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference's Hall of Fame. He was 51st overall pick in the 1959 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, and traded to the New York Titans in the American Football League. He then went on to work for Reis Equipment Company and for the Kroot Corporation as Sales Director.
Survivors include his daughters, Tamara (Mike) Mumley Sorg of Fort Wayne and Jody (Tony) Mumley VanArsdale of Eagle, Colorado; grandchildren, Brittany (Brandon) O'Brien Sorg Runyon of Evansville, Evan Michael Sorg and Jacob Nicholas Sorg of Fort Wayne; and one great granddaughter, Bailey Renee Runyon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vivian "Sue" F. Mumley on December 30, 2003.
